Remnant Racial Traits Released

Welcome back to the world of Rainfall! We’re doing something a little different today. I’m proud to release the stats for the first race in Rainfall!

If you’re a bit impatient and just want the stat block itself, scroll down. You’ll find a helpful image containing all the stats you need to make your own Remnant.

For those of you still with us, I’d like to talk a bit more about Remnants. Yes, I did say the next article would be about the Wiseman class, but I wanted to share something a little more concrete here. You’ve probably already seen the article on Remnants here, but I’d like to add a little more to that. What that article is missing are the four subraces of Remnants.

You might be thinking, “wait a minute, I thought Remnants were Humans? How can Humans have subraces?” Well you’re half right there. Remnants are Humans, but their subraces aren’t about them being different types of Humans. Instead, Remnant Subraces deal with what kind of suit a Remnant uses to protect themselves from the environment.

So first up, we have the Hazard Remnant. This is the Remnant you’ve seen in art like the one above. These Remnants use more modern environmental protections such as gas masks, respirators, clean suits, and other such technology. However, no one produces this technology anymore. As such, Hazard suits are cherished and often passed down family lines. These Remnants, while common, are nowhere near the majority of all Remnants and those who do wear Hazard suits were some of the first Remnants to reemerge into the World After.

Next, we have Diving Remnants. These are the most common form of Remnant. Since diving suits can be reliably produced in the World After, Remnants wearing them can be found in abundance. Their cloth bodied construction is also simple to repair and most Remnants can patch it very quickly. While some find the windowed head to be off-putting, most Remnants deal with it and keep their viewport clear to allow their face to show through.

Then there are the Space Remnants. These are probably my favorite style of Remnant, though by no means are they common. Space Remnants use the space suits of the World Before as contained environments to keep themselves safe. A space program was present at Ft. Scott in Rainfall and so a small number of these space suits were recovered and made working again. The Remnants who wear these are uniquely gifted with the technology that was integrated into these suits, namely the flashlight giving them access to the Light spell and the radio giving them access to the Message spell.

Finally, we have Exo Remnants. These are exactly what they sound like: Remnants in heavy armor exoskeletons. Originally designed for military use, Exo suits never saw mass production. As such, Exo Remnants are the smallest of all the Remnant subraces, at least by number of people. The suit is a hulking mass of solid metal armor that enhances the strength of the wearer. Like all Remnant suits, the Exo suit is a self contained environment, allowing Remnants to avoid the outside atmosphere. Any remnants wearing these suits possesses some of the greatest protection the World Before can offer, granting them a substantial amount of natural armor in addition to their amplified strength.

So with all those descriptions out of the way, lets present the stats themselves. Below, you’ll find the stat block for creating a Remnant character. This block will also be added to the bottom of the description of the race on the Published Content page.

That’s it for today. Have fun creating your own Remnants and I’ll see you next time for the Wiseman class.
