Accelerated

Humans weren’t the only residents of Earth to have been experimented on by the Preeminent. The various animal species of the world also saw themselves subject to alterations. The result was the Accelerated, animals with Human intelligence and Human forms. 

Physical Description

Accelerated appear for the most part like Humans. The major differences come from the addition of various animal traits. These often manifest as animal ears, tails, or claws being present on their body. However, these traits are highly related to the animal from which they were created. For example, an Accelerated who was created from a deer might possess antlers.

The hair color of the Accelerated always matches the color of fur present on their animal features and is the same as other animals they were created from. Eye color is often simple, with green, yellow, and black being extremely common.

History

Just like their Human neighbors, many animals were captured to be experimented upon. These animals would find the course of evolution sped up for them. Their Intelligence increased massively, becoming on par with Humanity. Their bodies also saw massive changes, with Human genetics introduced to them, resulting in a much more Human-like appearance.

Most of these Accelerated found themselves released to the western island before the departure of the Preeminent and few even noticed their absence. Here, they live their lives in peace since their release. 

Culture

Accelerated culture has changed little from their days as animals. Most live in small family groups and live off the land. These groups often form small villages of tents or simple structures. All members of these communities contribute to the health of the group, whether through hunting, crafting, or farming.

Equality runs high among these groups, with all being considered equally useful to the community regardless of gender, age, or ability.

Yet not all Accelerated live in peace with their families. Slavery is unfortunately common among Accelerated, with slavers finding them easy prey. Accelerated are often taken from their families and sold into slavery all across the region. It is not uncommon to find Accelerated slaves living among many different societies. 

Politics

Those who are too old to work for the good of the community are often revered and honored for their past works. These elders are the most respected members of a group of Accelerated and serve to guide the rest of the group.

Accelerated families are often led by the most experienced individual who is still strong enough to work. This often takes the form of a strong father or mother figure who ensures the safety and prosperity of the family. While this individual has no official title, when dealing with other groups, they are most often called a chief.

Lands

The western island has become a virtual nature sanctuary. It is here that the Accelerated live their lives in peace and continue to live in much the same way their animal ancestors once did. The island is covered in small settlements belonging to individual family groups or Accelerated.

Accelerated who live off the island are most often slaves in the possession of some master and never hold property of their own.

Relationships

Accelerated tend to keep to themselves. Few ever leave the western island. When they do come in contact with other people, they are generally friendly and open. Giving hospitality to guests is a common practice among Accelerated, though some are slow to trust and can seem hostile.

Religion

Most Accelerated practice a simple form of ancestor worship. They believe their ancestors live on in the heavens and can be called upon for assistance in daily tasks. Some Accelerated take up the religious beliefs of those they live among, especially if they live far away from other Accelerated.
