Aquarians

The ocean hides many secrets. One of these has crawled its way to the surface. These are the Aquarians, a group of highly spiritual fish-like people who live to appease their Kaiju gods.

Physical Description

From a distance, one might have a difficult time discerning an Aquarian from a Human. They have the same basic shape as Humans, though often are a good bit taller. However, on closer inspection, strange traits begin to be seen. Aquarians often have grey-ish or green-ish scaly skin, looking rather fish-like. They possess rippling folds along their necks resembling gills, and their eyes are often bulging. Some even possess even more fish-like characteristics such as fins, tentacles, or bioluminescent spots, though these are rare and usually appear among the elderly.

History

No one is quite sure where the Aquarians first came from. Some speculate they are yet another experiment of the Preeminent, whereas others believe them to be the misshapen children of Kaiju.

Whatever their origin, Aquarians crawled to the surface from the seafloor one day and have lived on the coasts ever since.

Culture

Life for Aquarians is dominated by their religious views. Aquarian religion sees the massive Kaiju of the region as gods and that all the good or bad things of the world can be attributed to the mood of the Kaiju. In order to appease the Kaiju, religious beliefs dictate that many elaborate ceremonies and prayers must be completed. These ceremonies happen quite often and are known to include Human sacrifice as a prominent feature.

This religion also places devotion to higher authorities, particularly the priests, as a great value. Following orders from these priests is considered a privilege and most do so with great joy. In general, taking care of others is considered a high value among their beliefs and this extends not only to other Aquarians, but also other races.

Piety is considered the greatest value among Aquarians and the most devoted Aquarian is thought to be the most perfect.

Politics

The highest authority among Aquarians is the Priest-King. This ruler is said to interpret the moods of the nearest Kaiju and to divine what must be done to appease it from this. Beneath the Priest-King are many Priests who serve to carry out ceremonies and guide the faith of the masses. A Priest is often the most respected member of a given community and questioning the words of such a priest is considered criminal.

Lands

Aquarians settle near the coast where they can be close to Kaiju. Their settlements often sit just outside the territory of a Kaiju. These settlements often feature grand pyramids and many canals to carry water throughout the area. The largest of their settlements is Huitzilopochtli, a massive temple complex sitting within the ruins of Rainfall. This city is dedicated to the largest and most powerful Kaiju known to the world and gathers many followers and faithful within its walls.

Relationships

Aquarians are often cordial to their neighbors, keeping easy and peaceful relationships with them. Most are calm and easy to get along with. Fish are often sold from Aquarian settlements and used to keep relationships normal.

Religion

Aquarians view the massive Kaiju that roam the seas around Rainfall as gods. They worship them and are known to seek out things left behind by them as holy relics. Religion is one of the single greatest factors in Aquarian life and most are highly spiritual.
